cookie time

Every year I bake a huuuuge amount of cookies...and somehow there aren't any left by the last day of christmas. Here are the first two batches:

almond paste angels
These angels are made of almond paste and dark chocolate. After a few minutes in a really really hot oven they keep their shape and taste much better. I bought a special "3d" silicone mold last year. You have to be quick or the almond paste is too brittle and dry. Most of the poor angels don't have elbows...they got stuck in the mold and wouldn't come out.

cinnamon stars
Cinnamon stars made with almond paste, dark chocolate and candied orange peel. The original plan was to make almond paste angels, but for some reason the dough was too dry. I mixed it with candied cinnamon, orange peel, almond flour and egg whites...and ...tadah!...they turned out pretty decent.

sneak peek...

...at my christmas decorations (well, the snowflakes in the last picture are not actually mine...they put them up in our neighbourhood every year). I usually start decorating on the First Sunday of Advent, but this year I'm running late...

my wannabe christmas tree
I spray-painted a couple of branches and they now pose as a our christmas tree...

my wannabe christmas tree
...every year I like to make some of the decorations myself...the flowery ornament was inspired by a Danish interior site...

xmas decoration...
...and since there were some left over beads...I made these small 'trees' as well...

kitchen window
...really easy to make and a bit oldfashioned: cardboard stars dipped in glue and glimmer...

snowflakes
...and suddenly you just know christmas is around the corner...

Sorry, sorry...

...for the recent lack of updates, but I've been freakishly busy the last few weeks (and when I wasn't - just plain lazy). But my favourite time of the year is almost here (well, I actually start looking for christmas related items by the end of September...sad sad sad, I know) and this will hopefully inspire me to post more frequently.

Anyway...this is my absolute favourite magazine at the moment. I cancelled my subscriptions of "ReadyMade" and "Domino" in favour of "BoligLiv", even so I don't speak a word of Danish. Well, make that one or two or three - I've learned a couple of words while guessing my way through the articles using all the languages I ever learned. But oh...the pictures almost speak for themselves. Absolutely stunning photography and interiors (without being over the top or insanely expensive).

It's probably a good thing...

...that I'm not living in Denmark. I'd be totally broke all the time. How come so many wonderful designers are Danish? True, I could buy a lot online, but luckily the shipping costs are holding me back or we would have to live on Ramen noodles.

Do yourself a favour and head over to their website. If you are anything like me you will want EVERYTHING. Just look at the fabric of this dress!

I slept a little better last night - thanks for your concern, Lisa! - probably because I was so tired my body just decided it needed some rest and knocked me unconscious. Two nights ago I woke up at 2am (I fell asleep maybe 5 minutes earlier) with my heart beating in my throat because someone was running on the roof with what sounded like cement shoes (we are on the top floor of a 5 story building). I thought they tried to beat down our door... Not helping with my "sleeping alone" issues. At all.

tree skirt...

...not the one for your christmas tree, but a really cute hand screenprinted one for you! Take a look!

I'm supertired these days. I can't sleep. My husband got a new job far far away and now we only see each other on weekends. I'm fine during the day (always so so so much to do), but the nights are bad. I think I've aged about 10 years in the last two weeks.

Nothing to cry about

duiwhwi

My last post was 10 days ago? It didn't seem that long! So sorry. I was probably busy listening to The Weepies "Say I'm You" over and over again. Though they are probably an old hat for everyone else, I just discovered them by watching the first season of "Men in Trees" (again). The pilot features their song "World Spins Madly On"...fantastic. Even so music is a highly personal matter, give them a try. So, so beautiful.

put your best foot forward.

The best thing about changing from livejournal to blogger is that now I can post as many pictures as I like without spaming anybody's "friends"-page. And there is always so much show and tell! Sadly these pictures are too small to do the shoes justice - they are true works of art. And so many designs to shoes - uhm - choose from...you could wear a different pair each day of the week. I almost wouldn't dare to wear them on our dirty autumn streets though.

Moomin madness

Can you ever grow too old for a classic? I don't think so. The Moomin comic strips by Finnish author Tove Jansson have been republished (with three more books to come). I'm already in love with the covers:

"Moomin Book One: The Complete Tove Jansson Comic Strip"

"Moomin Book Two: The Complete Tove Jansson Comic Strip"

And even so cartoon mugs usually don't float my boat, I just might add this "Pikku Myy" (Little My) cup to my collection - she's my favourite character.

Need something sweet with your tea while reading the books? Then you might be interested in the Moomin cookie cutters. It's an illness I tell you...

One swallow does not make a summer...

...but since it's already autumn and there are actually four swallows, I guess we are on the safe side.

Swallow wall decals (also available in white):

These can easily be a bit too kitschy but would be really cute in a minimalist interior.

Invite me to a Polterabend. Please.

No...we definitely don't need more bowls of any kind. That said - I'd really love to have these. The colors are devine and I like the raw edges.

Speaking of doilies...

...I almost forgot my new bicycle basket!

3573
("Carrie", giving.dk)

I've had my eyes on "Carrie" for months and knew I would eventually break down and order it in Denmark. Then one night when my husband picked me up after work, we passed this little shop called "Scandinavian Objects" (scandinavianobjects.com) which is on the same street as our shop. And...it was right there! In the window! We were so excited, we didn't even ask for the price. And when the shop owner finally told us, we misunderstood what he said...that was one expensive bicycle basket! My darling husband bought it for me without flinching...well maybe there was a little twitch in his left eye... And to top it all off - I don't even have a bike! (Yet...)

nümphomaniac

If you like Danish design and cute feminine clothing with an edge, I can highly recommend "Nümph", the clothing company which made my favourite dachshund tee:
GetFile
Great quality, puffsleeves and cut slightly longer than normal tshirts (which is great as I hate to expose my underwear when bending over).

I just ordered this owl top too - I hope it has the same great fit.

black forest...china

image2_0000563
(dibbern.de)

A bit morbid, yet strangely appealing - the "black forest" china by Dibbern. Perfect for Halloween. I wish I could buy a set of dishes for every season, but our cupboards are exploding as it is.
